Tinubu Approves 30-80% Salary Increase For Armed Forces Personnel

President Bola Tinubu has approved a salary increase ranging from 30 to 80 percent for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, with about 250,000 service members  expected to benefit from the new package.

The revised salary structure, which takes effect from September 1, provides a 30 percent increase for officers above the rank of Colonel, including Brigadier Generals, Major Generals, Lieutenant Generals, and Generals.

Personnel from the rank of Colonel down to Warrant Officer will receive a 50 percent salary increase, while those from Private to Staff Sergeant will enjoy an 80 percent increase.

The new remuneration package will raise the annual salary bill for the Armed Forces from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion.

President Tinubu said the pay review underscores his administration's commitment to improving the welfare of military personnel in recognition of their courage, dedication, and sacrifices in tackling banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, and other security challenges across the country.

He reaffirmed that the government would continue to prioritise troop welfare while modernising the Armed Forces through the provision of advanced weapons, equipment, and technological tools needed to effectively carry out their constitutional responsibilities.

According to the President:

"The men and women who help to keep us safe in our homes must be supported and appreciated in the course of their duties to our nation.

"Our administration will continue to prioritise troop welfare and modernise the Armed Forces by providing the weapons and technological tools needed to discharge their duties.

"No nation can achieve greatness without security. We therefore remain resolute in mobilising all military and law enforcement assets to eliminate security threats and protect the lives and property of all Nigerians.

"I urge our servicemen and women to see this gesture as a demonstration of our deep appreciation for their selfless service to our fatherland. Together, we shall prevail over those who seek to undermine the peace, unity, and stability of our nation.
